In 2014, Holli Edgley and Chris Neill purchased their 13-acre farmstead property, which is directly adjacent to Edgley Farms owned by Holli’s parents. Together, they are working with Ron and Beth to manage the farm and steward the property. The plan is to fence more pasture, graze more cattle, and offer delicious grass-fed beef to the local community.
There’s something about the Adirondacks. It’s the mountain air, the clear water, the woods, the mountains, the open spaces. It’s home. After growing up a few miles apart in Lake Placid and Saranac Lake and moving away for college and 20-something adventures, we reconnected at a family picnic on a weekend trip home. Not too much time later and we were living together in New York’s Hudson Valley where free time was spent experiencing local food and small farm culture. We then moved to Western NY where Holli attended nursing school at the University of Rochester and Chris worked for an agricultural consulting firm collecting soil samples from across the state. In the Fall of 2012, the Adirondacks called us home and we said “I do” a few months later.
Two daughters, a dog, cat, chickens and a herd of Angus cattle later and here we are, raising our family to love and care for the land as much as we do. We are working hard to make sure our daughters grow up with a connection to farming, the land, and sustainable food systems. Our hope is to work hard enough to grow the family farm, ensure its profitability, and keep the property in agriculture for years to come so that future generations can also experience the good farming life on “the Ridge”.
